After it passed at Student Panel in November, our team have been exploring this with the University. We arranged a meeting with Wayne Winterbottom (IT Support Manager, who is responsible for this type of policy area) to discuss the idea. However, he told us that it is not financially feasible to implement at this current moment in time. This is due to the cost of introducing a new system across the campus that is compatible with existing software that monitors attendance/records etc. At this time, the idea is closed. Even though this may be a disappointment, we will try and encourage the University to consider digital ID cards in future planning.
As students we have to scan our ID cards before entering each of our lessons. However it is common to forget our cards, so it would be more convenient if we could access the barcode on our cards on our mobile phones. This would make it more convenient for all students.
If you have any additional ideas for monitoring lesson attendance, please comment below

Seem like a pretty good idea, especially when people are likely to be in a rush in the morning due to a 9:00am lecture/practical, they may not have the luxury of remembering to verify they have everything.

I like the idea in concept but from my experience I have never seen a lecture with a barcode scanner, for this idea to work we'd also need to install barcode scanners in lecture rooms on top of the fob reader
